How Green Is Your Money?

,

About this event

As part of your 2023 commitments, are you considering reducing your personal and business carbon footprint? A good starting point might be to consider 'How Green Is Your Money?' Following on from November's event, our guest speaker is Dan Sherrard-Smith, founder of MotherTree Limited, who will be focusing on the financial impact of current accounts, savings, ISAs and pensions. Dan is not a financial advisor but he is passionate about highlighting the environmental impacts of where people put their money. Dan developed MotherTree to make it easy for people to understand the impact of the banks and other financial institutions they are using. For example, did you know that Barclays invested over £20 billion into oil and gas companies in 2021? And HSBC was not far behind! By using the MotherTree calculator, you will very quickly be able to find out the carbon footprint of your money in tonnes of CO2 per year, with an example to put it in perspective. e.g. an average of £500 sitting in a Barclays account has a carbon footprint of 0.15 tonnes of CO2 per year which is the equivalent of a flight from London to Rome. I'm sure Dan will have lots of examples to show us! The essence of our events is supporting each other and supporting a better way of doing business. And, as always with our events, we hope to raise funds for local charities, in this instance via the donation option. There will be a ‘prize draw’ and one delegate will have the opportunity to nominate a local charity of their choice to benefit from this month's charity pot.
