Million Tree Pledge October Meetup

This October will be the first opportunity for Million Tree Pledgers (and anyone interested in supporting our community) to come together and meet in person. One Garden Brighton (www.onegardenbrighton.com) will be our base for the day and from there we will be spending time with nature and each other. You’ll enjoy good food, company, wonderful surroundings and some thought provoking experiences. After coffee and refreshments on arrival we’ll head out to explore the surrounding area of Stanmer Park. Stanmer is Brighton’s largest park and was designed in the 18th Century. It is a grade II listed registered landscape with historical and national significance and of course home for many varieties of trees. As a working estate until the turn of the last century, it is a mix of village life, farmland and family mansion. Its purchase by the Brighton Corporation in 1947 to secure the city water supplies led to varied uses but more recently it has been restored and the area is now a protected nature reserve. We’ll be exploring not only the old but the new as the park hosts a number of features including the sustainable low carbon Brighton Earthship and the Victorian Grade II Listed Stanmer Water Catch. Whilst completely different they both have environmental stories to tell.
